Repossession Specialist

Department: Repossession
Location: Atlanta, GA

Summary Responsible for daily functions related to the location, recovery and attainment of repossessions and impounds. Complies with policies and procedures related to the recovery of all impounded and repossessed vehicles

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Qualifies and assigns accounts that the Collection team has approved for repossession
  • Assigns accounts to Repossession Company; involuntary, voluntary, abandoned and impounds
  • Documents system and notifies all corresponding departments once vehicle has been secured
  • Reviews, updates and conducts follow-ups with agents on accounts assigned for repossession/pick up
  • Reviews accounts for payments or collection arrangements, placing an account on hold or closing request
  • Closes dead-end assignments and forwards the account to the skip department
  • Ensures compliance with state laws regarding the right to cure (RTC), Strict Compliance Letter (SCL), Soldiers and Sailors Credit Protection (SSCRA), and any Bankruptcy protection requirements
  • Processes vehicle reinstatements and/or redemptions
  • Reviews repossession agency invoices, and posts to the AMW screen and forwards to manager for payment
  • Handles impounded vehicles and secures their release
  • This position involves regular access to specified personal information of consumers, including, but not limited to, Social Security numbers and dates of birth

Education and/or Experience The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED; two to five years repossession or auto collection experience is preferred.

Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Excel software, MS Word software and MS Access software

Other Skills and Abilities Knowledge of and compliant with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, local, state and federal collection laws.
